Home School Agreement

Working in partnership for success

We aim to ensure that Newtown is a happy and successful school, where children are engaged with their learning and are motivated to succeed. We encourage mutual respect, support and collaboration between all adults and children, both within the school and the wider community.

This can be done most effectively when all staff, parents and children understand their responsibilities and work together towards the same goals. This home school agreement details how we can best work together.

Please read it with your child and then return the signed slip to the school. Thank you!

The school works in partnership with families by:

  • Communicating with parents/carers through contact at the start and end of the day, ClassDojo messaging, newsletters, website, parent/teacher consultations, workshops and meetings

  • Listening to parents' views through informal conversations, parent governors and questionnaires

  • Making policies available for parents to read on an informative website

  • Identifying areas for development and addressing issues through the school development plan.

  • Identifying at an early stage children who are having difficulties and working in partnership with parents to support their child

Families work in partnership with the school by:-

  • Communicating with school – letting the class teacher know of anything that might affect your child’s behaviour or learning, attending workshops and meetings

  • Taking an active interest in your child’s development and supporting with school or homework activities

  • Supporting the school rules

  • Getting your child to school on time

  • Ensuring your child wears school uniform and has an appropriate P.E. kit

  • Fostering the skills of self-reliance and encouraging your child to gain independence by managing their own needs and personal organisation

  • Helping your child to develop curiosity about the world around them as well as positive attitudes towards people, their environment and school.

Children support the school’s values by:

  • Following our behaviour policy

  • Being kind and helpful

  • Looking after property

  • Listening to other children and adults

  • Being honest, and…

  • Coming to school ready to learn!
