End of term message from our Chair of Governors
As we near the end of term, I am writing to wish you a very happy holiday from the school governors.
It has been an extraordinary year and all of us have had to work in different ways. You have become full-time teachers with no notice and your children have had to cope with life without their friends, finding ways of learning and new skills at home. The staff have worked incredibly hard setting work for children in their homes and keeping in touch with them to make sure they are coping and thriving. More recently, Mrs Herbert and her teaching and support staff team at school have had to deal, almost daily, with new directives from government and have responded with great ambition in order to offer a part-time return to school for all those who wished to return. And the Governing Body has held its meetings online, keeping in touch with the school regularly so that we could be confident that the arrangements for children and staff were keeping all safe in these unprecedented times.
None of this has been easy but there have been several high points to celebrate: the many messages on Class Dojo, the newsletters, the Stars of the Week and the virtual sports events are all testament to the continuing lively school life at Newtown. And who can forget our May Day celebrations this year? Covid-19 was not going to disrupt that tradition at Newtown! The planned removal of the overgrown privet hedge on Clifton Road opened up the school garden to the community and with its colourful streamers in the trees has signalled that this is a school very much open for business.
To Year 6 children and parents, we send our particular good wishes to you as you prepare for the move to secondary school. And to all of you, we wish you a very happy holiday and we look forward to seeing you in September.
