Owls
Welcome to Owl Class!
Dear Parents and Carers,
My name is Mrs Noble and I am the Class Teacher for Owl Class. Our class is lucky to have additional teaching support from Mrs. Pulman (Monday - Thursday), Bex (Monday to Friday), Ms. Bailey (Wednesday) and Ms. Griffin (Friday).
Our Learning -
From Spring, we will be starting our learning journals. Our first unit of study will be Geography and we will be looking to answer, 'How has the locality of the school changed or stayed the same overtime?' This unit will see us mastering map skills, learning about manmade and natural features in our surroundings and using trips out to compile comparisons of similarities and differences over time.
Reading:
Reading is of huge importance and a real focus in Owl Class, as it enables the children to access and enjoy the entire curriculum.
We ask for parents to hear their children as often as possible, ideally this would be at least 5 times a week. In addition to reading their reading 1-2-1 with an adult in school, there are a huge number of opportunities to read whilst in the class. We also have regular whole class guided reading lessons and finish our day with class story time.
Your child will come home with two books, one matched to their reading level, which they are to read almost independently and another book from library, which can be read to them or a mix of the two. We ask for the reading books to be read three times before they are changed. This ensures that the children are able to fully understand the text they are reading and develop their fluency and comprehension skills.
In addition to this, there are a range of Bug Club books set for your child, which they can read online using their log in and password. The school code is c7kx.
Home learning:
In addition to reading 5 times a week, each week, Owls will be set spelling to practice, one piece of English or Maths homework a week. The children will be sent home with a homework book every Friday. Please ensure the book is returned to school each Wednesday to allow for marking time and for the new homework to be set. Thank you.
PE:
This half term, the children have Forest school on Tuesday with Mr Rees. Please ensure they have wellies as well as warm and waterproof clothing for this. Their second PE session will be on Thursday. PE kits are to be kept in school please.
We kindly remind you to ensure that all PE kit remains in line with our school’s uniform policy. Please also provide your Owl with an optional warm tracksuit to wear over their clothes, as our PE sessions will continue when the weather becomes colder.
School Lunches:
School lunches can be ordered daily in class and are free to children in KS1. I would recommend going through the lunch options with your Owl each week to ensure they are happy with the available choices.
Communication:
We will continue to communicate with parents and carers via Class Dojo. Here, I will post regular updates about our learning in class, as well as other important information. You also have the option to contact us directly via the private messaging tool, but please note that we will likely only respond during school hours. Any absences are to be reported to the school office rather then via Dojo, thank you.
I look forward to the year ahead with Owl Class and hope to see you at some of our class events soon.
Best wishes,
Mrs Noble
