Woodpeckers Class – Spring Term

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year! Although the circumstances are not as expected, it is still a joy to be able to support the children’s learning opportunities this half term. We understand that this is a difficult time, asking children to work remotely and many of you trying to work at home yourselves. We hope that the children have gained some confidence in using Google Classroom to access and send in their work, but we will be available to give guidance and support throughout Lockdown. Some days, staff are working in school supporting the children of critical workers. We will still be available via Class Dojo and Google Classroom but may not respond as quickly on these days. Accessing home learning is vitally import this term, so please ensure you contact me if you have any queries about how to access the content we have planned.

Below is a timetable for each week. Work needs to be submitted by the deadline of 3:30pm each day. We also ask that the children read and complete their Personal Reading Record every day, and do some physical activity, whether this is a walk or online aerobic activity, such as GoNoodle or Joe Wicks videos. The expectation is 3 hours of work each day, which will consist of online videos, worksheets, written tasks, reading and creative tasks. Every day, Woodpeckers should attempt to complete the following tasks:

  • Maths
  • English
  • Reading, including updating Personal Reading Record (please try to read a variety of texts, e.g. Bug Club, novels/longer books, magazines, websites etc.)
  • Topic/Subject Task

Our topic this term has a primarily geography focus - ‘Rainforests’. We will be exploring rainforests around the world and looking at the plants, animals, people, and physical features of these amazing (and incredibly important) biomes.

Remote Learning Timetable:

We will be contacting parents once a week to check-in and offer support wherever possible. If there are elements of the work that any children find difficult, please let us know as we can adapt planning and provide extra support where possible. If you have any queries, please get in touch with me via Class Dojo. With your help, we can try to ensure that this lockdown does not have a detrimental impact to the learning of the children.

I’d also like to give a big Woodpeckers Welcome to Ms. Petherick, who is joining the Woodpeckers team this term. She has already been in with us before the Christmas break to get to know the children and will be a valuable member of the team.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Keep safe,

Mr. Brennan and Ms Petherick
